Why do people care so much about the private lives of celebrities? Is it idol worship, schadenfreude, or something entirely different?
I think there is a reason behind this. I feel that people want to see what celebrities are like when they aren't acting or trying to show off for the cameras. We all want to know if they really are just people, or if there's something more to them. Some of us see them as these untouchable gods, others as everyday hard-working peers. For the most part, I think we're all just curious to see if they do the same things we do. Do they go shopping like us? Do they make dinner at night and eat with their families? Do they help their kids do homework? Do they lay in bed and read a book with the television turned down low? Are they like us? Or are they completely different?
I believe that most of us would like to think that we do the same things as the celebrities do, just on a smaller scale and without all the bright lights. Maybe that's why we watch them so closely.
